Fairbanks Curling Club
Youth/Junior Program

The Fairbanks Curling Club offers a progressive youth program for youth ages 5-21, with a focus on fun, age appropriate curling activities and skill building, sportsmanship, and also the ability to progress and compete successfully at the national level, if a child so desires.

Our vision: The most worthwhile aspect of any sport is what it can teach us about ourselves; teamwork, ethics, goal-setting, responsibility, sportsmanship and confidence. We believe that curling is the perfect sport for teaching all of these things. As instructors, coaches and mentors, we will strive to help all kids become better athletes and more importantly, better people. Its going to be a lot of work and a lot of fun.

Program Division Descriptions

Ice Chips

Kindergarten to about 1st grade
(13 and under)

The starting point for the youngest curlers in the FCC family. Age appropriate games, snack and off-ice activities are a part of each Ice Chips session. Our goal is to ignite a spark of passion for curling while learning to follow directions and work together on the ice.

On-ice parent participation required and parents must remain at the club during the Saturday practice.

Little Rockers

Grades 1st-3rd
(13 and under)

Youth at this level still use the little rocks, but are beginning to develop proper curling skills. Sessions will stress on ice safety, skill development and fun. There will be an off-ice break for snacks during the session.

Parents encouraged to help on the ice and must remain at the club during the Saturday practice.

Big Rockers

Grades 4th-6th
(13 and under)

At this level regulation sized rocks are used, and more advanced curling concepts, such as the difference in each team position and strategy will be developed. This level has two on-ice instruction sessions. Parents must remain at the club during the Saturday practice.

Must be able to throw the stones the full sheet of ice

Juniors

Grades 7th-12th
(14 and over)

This program encompasses opportunities for both the social/recreational junior curler, as well as those interested in pursuing competitive curling opportunities. All Juniors will have the opportunity for on- ice practice sessions on Saturdays, but are also encouraged to participate in leagues for additional ice time, and Mondays skill-building. We would prefer that a parent or guardian remain at the club with Junior curlers under 16 years old. If a parent can’t stay we ask that they talk to the Lead Coach or Instructor for the day well before the start of practice.
