The Fairbanks Curling Club is excited to host a special Kevin Martin Academy weekend, September 25–27, featuring instruction from one of the greatest competitive curlers in the world.

Kevin Martin, known throughout the curling world as “The Old Bear,” is a Canadian curling legend, Olympic gold medalist, World Champion, four-time Canadian Brier Champion, and member of the World Curling Hall of Fame. As a past Olympian and one of the most accomplished skips in the sport, Kevin brings elite-level experience in strategy, shot-making, team systems, and competitive preparation.

This is a rare opportunity for Fairbanks curlers to receive direct instruction from one of the most successful and respected curlers in the game.

Main Academy Sessions

Participants must sign up for either the Friday session or the Saturday session. Each day follows the same format and is limited to 24 participants.

Friday, September 25

9:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Main Academy Class — 24 participants maximum

Saturday, September 26

9:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Main Academy Class — 24 participants maximum

Each Main Academy session includes 6 total hours of instruction:

Morning On-Ice Technical Session — 2 hours
Focused technical instruction on delivery, mechanics, balance, line of delivery, release, brushing, and shot execution.

Strategic & Tactics Session — 2 hours
Warm room classroom session covering game strategy, tactics, shot selection, end management, and competitive decision-making.
Lunch is included during this portion of the day.

Afternoon On-Ice Front End / Back End Session — 2 hours
On-ice instruction focused on team roles, communication, sweeping systems, skip/vice decision-making, and front-end/back-end coordination.

Friday Evening Meet & Greet Socialat 5:30 PM Participants are invited to join Kevin for an evening social at the club. This social is open to all members of the Fairbanks Curling Club at no charge.

Sunday, September 27

Competitive Team Sessions — Limited to 6 teams - Sunday is reserved for competitive team work with Kevin Martin. Teams must register together as a full team. Each team will need to come prepared with a targeted goal for its practice time with Kevin. Examples may include team communication, shot tolerance, sweeping systems, end-game strategy, roles and responsibilities, competitive preparation, or another specific development area.

Preference will be given to teams where at least 50% of the team has previously participated in a national playdown or higher-level event.

Registration & Pricing

Individual Main Academy Class: $150 per person
Participants register for either the Friday session or the Saturday session.

Registration preference will be given to Fairbanks Curling Club members for the 2025/2026 season who sign up between July 16 - August 19th.

Beginning August 20th, registration will open to curlers outside the Fairbanks Curling Club membership, space permitting.

Junior Members: $150 (12 -$75 Scholarships are available - please see info. below)

Paid junior members from the 2025/2026 season are eligible for a reduced rate of $75, with the remaining $75 supported by the Youth / Junior Fund. Discounted junior spots are limited to 12. A $75 reimbursement will be issued to 12 Fairbanks Junior Curlers from the Youth/Jr Curling account. If more than 12 juniors sign up, then the scholarships will be based on a lottery system.

Sunday Competitive Team Session: $50 per person
Teams must register together as a full team.

• Event T-shirt
• Lunch during the Strategic & Tactics session
• Invitation to the Friday evening meet & greet social
